The children of Whitney Crescent participated in a “hands on” gutter gardening project. The gutter garden structure built by Rowan University students was ready for planting and the children were excited to get started. A nice variety of vegetables, herbs and even strawberries were planted and will be cared for by the new Whitney gardening club, “Handy Helpers”. Under the guidance of Amiee Dragotta and Rutgers Cooperative, the gardening program will provide an opportunity to learn how to garden, harvest and prepare healthy foods “grown in the gutter”. This was a fun filled day for the children who seemed eager to dig in and learn about gardening! Visit our Community Investment Strategies Facebook page to see pictures from the day!
